My tv is right next to a standard wall plug, i plug it or the cable box into the bottom plug and the tv or cable box make a quite loud electrical hum, when i plug the same equipment into the top plug all is gentleness. Oh yea the tv still works with both but only problem is the hum.
Answers: It sounds close to there could be a loose (ground) wire connected to the receptacle or it's going desperate.
Disconnect the power to that particular recept. remove cover, remove recept from the box and tighten the screws holding the wires making sure in attendance is a good ground.
Reinstall recept into the wall turn power back on and check to see if the hum is gone. If it is replace cover and turn about your day; if it still hums regulation out the outlet with a new one.
Change the recep to a commercial recep near a continious grnd. strap. It could be a loose connection
