My house caught fire Thanksgiving night and be sucluded to a 7x7 area contained by the attic, we have gutted the kitchen but requirement to removed the charred wood before spraying near killz, These are the rafters attached to the roof inhside the atti which are not destgroyed at adjectives, just charred on the outside, as I asked, what is the best bearing to remove t charred wood? et. A certain Tool that works best?
Thanks for the comfort
Answers: Your problem is the smell of the char. You have to remove it after scrape. Its done with chemicals, not a cover up undertaking with Kilz. The problem if you dont do it right is you will smell the fire forever. Especially within hot, humid months. Call in a burn impairment pro from the yellow page.
I have other found paint scrapers [ with the replaceable, curved, double-sided blade ] to be the best tool for that duty. After spraying with " Kilz ", usually any framing that have lost 1/4" or more should be replaced or at least " scabbed " [ the practise of attaching dimensional lumber to existing framing, to increase strength ]. Please check beside your local building codes.
