For the last 2 days I enjoy smelled natural gas contained by my garage (where the a/c, heater, and wet heater are). I call the gas company and they came out and did their check and said they couldn't find a seepage. What else could be causing this, and is it hazardous? The pilot lite on the hot water kiln is lit constantly, so I would think than if it be a big leak it would hold exploded by now...

Answers:    Gas companies own some pretty accurate equipment. I wouldn't be inclined to second guess them, but who know? Did the utilitiy guys smell anything at all?

Lots of things can be mistaken for gas. Just final month I was convinced I have a leak contained by my own garage. I sprayed all my fittings and found nought. On a hunch, I took a partially-filled jug of gasoline out of the garage and placed it outside. Viola! The odor go away.

If you have a coup¨¦ or any other gasoline-operated device in the garage (lawnmower, chainsaw, whatever), try parking or moving it outside for a sunshine or two. Do you have a propane cistern stored inside? Make sure any chemical canisters are hermetic. Look for any forgotten garbage or grass clippings that might be fermenting contained by a corner. Of course, dead rodents offer off a distinctive odor, but check around anyway. Good luck and post up your findings.

Take a bowl full of dish soap, and rather water, and brush it around adjectives the joints on the gas vein, if it bubbles up.......You have a seepage, then you can walk from there.
