Use a mix of cinnamon and sugar. The ants will pick up the sugar, along with the cinnamon, and take it wager on to their queen. cleaning will not stop ants from coming into your home, it just give them a nice place to live.. if it's just a few smaller ants around the kitchen cabinets, get some ant traps and place them in some out of the way places close to under the sink, behind the fridge, etc. procure some home defense spray at your local lumber yard/home center-- spray around baseboards, radiators, anywhere you may see them .. keep as much food and sweets in superior areas ..if you have several big black ants, you may have carpenter ants surrounded by the walls nesting-- you'll need a prof. exterminator to get those doomed to failure boys out I use this white chalk that kills all the ants within around three hours.. go to a local hardware store/ house maintenance and they should own some. All you have to do is draw a line around the ants, and three-four hours latter, they're dead! It looks just resembling regular chalk, but it kills ants :). Make sure you wash your hand after you use it though because remember it's still a poison. Good luck!
Answers: A simple Indoor/Outdoor insecticide sprayed around the entry points outside of your home will keep them from coming in. I use (Bug Stop) from Sprectracide that i bought at Walmart for $4.

I found the easiest way be to pour paraffin where they seamed to congregate when a thunder storm was really probable then treat all demonstrable places with the ant dusting powder i've heard that if you put saline where the enter it will stop them. ants hate brackish
