We currently have a 56 gallon, but i believe that it is too huge for the home. We have a 3 bedroom, 1 1/2 hip bath home. 4 people living inside.

I would voice a 50 gallon heater is the minimum for a three bedroom home beside four people living in attendance.
When our children were still living at home we have a 50 gallon heater and it be adequate but not oversized.
There is completely little down side to having an over sized boiler and a lot if it is too small.
Answers: a typical size is a 40gal but it depends on tub size,Jacuzzi tub ,etc. i used to have an 80 gal, and it go out ,so i replaced it with a 40 gal and the cost of my utilities go down by over 100 dollars. a 40 gal should be more than enough for your nearest and dearest size. also be sure not to have the steam themo, any higher than 130* f. also return with one with an life saving symbol on it.
