What metals do they use surrounded by plumbing?

They use copper contained by the feed or supply lines. Older homes used to use galvanize steel in the supply lines.

Cast iron and steel be used and is still used in the consume lines.

Now copper and CPVC are both used in the supply lines. There are sever different types of plastic supply lines that are becoming more and more popular adjectives the time.

For waste lines PVC have been the choice of plumbers and builders for years presently. It is cheaper and lighter, and easier to work with.
Steel for boiler & radiators, brass for valves, copper/plastic for pipework, it is this mix of metals which cause most problems with corrosion, as they are contained by a liquid and conduct yourself like a battery-operated, where the smaller number "noble" metals suffer from galvanic corrosion( Steel ) producing black rust (magnetite ) which is the bye-product of the corrosion.
As corrosion only act in slightly sharp conditions, it is advisable to counteract this acid by adding together an alkali known as inhibitor.
Aluminum radiators are sometimes used contained by conjunction with other metals, and as aluminum is artificial by alkali, a different type of inhibitor is used which is accepted by both types.
