Im not sure if this piece of brass I found at an auction is a whistle or a valve. After connecting it to an air compressor it made a slight uproar, but not enough to be sure that it was a whistle. It be made by The American Steam Gauge and Valve Co. in Boston MA USA. The only other writing on it is what i assume is a serial number,it read B08496. Any help is appreciated. Answers:    You have blown down it and it didn't construct a noise so I'll hazard a guess it's not a whistle unless the pea is missing. the lettering American steam guage and stopcock co should suggest to you it is a steam valve but not one of the whistling breed.
