Answers: Apples and Oranges are both vigorous snacks, but some people favor one over the other. It's pretty much one and the same thing next to gas and oil. Both provide bake, whether it's forced air or hydronic. Both rely on burners contained by your home; although there are some outdoor bunch units avaiable, I instinctively dislike them. Both are safe and reliable Gas regularly gets a bleak rap when an incident occurs next to poorly maintained equipment. Oil get a bad rap when leak tanks or lines wreak an ecological disaster. Some homeowners insurance carrier will not insure homes with grease heat unless they hold above-ground tanks next to leak detectors.
As of the writing, grease costs more than gas per therm. That can change surrounded by a politcal instant, and it has. Costs to buy and state the equipment are similar. Gas requires an external gas supplier (which is usually an area monopoly) whereas grease gives you a choice of local suppliers, but requires an on-site storage cistern, and usually a contract with the supplier.
Anyone who say "Oil, hands-down" likely have little experience with gas, and vice-versa.
SO, what do you prefer? Apples or Oranges? There really is no clear answer. My professional experience is in the main with gas. I prefer gas, but at hand is nothing wrong beside oil. ;-)

oil produces more btu's per gallon but you can lone get something like 85% maximum of that heat into your house, the rest go up the chimney. an oil burner also wants to be set up just right by a competent technician to gain the best efficiency while maintain a clean burn. this resources proper maintenance is crucial. grease fired heating equipment is also more prone to breakdowns than gas and service call are generally more expensive. Gas warmth on the other hand is much cleaner. large efficiency condensing gas furnaces can put up to 96% of the warmness into your house, losing only a small amount surrounded by the flue exhaust. gass furnaces are also more reliable with smaller amount expensive service calls within general. so vitally you get more warmness per dollar from the fuel with grease but also more headaches. A little smaller number heat from the fuel near gas but a greater percentage of the heat in fact makes it into your house, much cleaner and smaller number headaches. Go beside gas.
