I've said I will refurb my parents kitchen table but I'm not sure what product to use. It needs to hold a matt/natural finish and above all have to be hardwearing. It's in a cattle farm kitchen so gets alot of 'traffic' and constantly have hot cups on it. So it needs to know how to take adjectives this and not mark. Any accepted wisdom?
Answers: 1.junkers oil(trade name)
2.polyurothane varnish(matt)
hello.pine is a soft wood,so I would lightly sand the surface, next to a fine sandpaper, but remembering to go next to the grain and not across it,after put a few coats of clear varnish, start of with a 50/50 mix of varnish and thinners, consequently a 75/25 mix of varnish and thinners, then a few coats of straight varnish, think twice, when you buy varnish you can get one to be exact heat resistant,as monotonous varnish will/could leave a white ring from a hot cup of tea or coffe, appropriate luck,oh and if sanding dont forget to wear a cloak.
