I have always hear it refered to as *er board in the south but it was a black (in color) construction board. I don't know the proper moniker for this 4x8 material or even if its sold anymore. Can anyone please advise. Thanks.

Answers:    It have the same name around here powerfully after it was no longer politically correct. The technical generic possession is "fiberboard insulating sheathing".

At one time, there were several different brands. Knight-Celotex still manufacture the product and also has some improved version that are coated to resist moisture or provide some structure.

I would not use this product in a construction project. There are several alternatives that offer better insulating properties and/or structural properties. There may be some well brought-up uses, but I can't think of any. Price was the primary explanation it was used years ago, but in the current open market this should not be an issue.
