I have a recessed hurricane lantern with the electric wiring coming out of an electric box that has a black piece sticking out that get very hot. The standard lamp has started to turn on and sour.
What is the purpose of the handle and the box. Some relatives have told me it is thermal protector.
Answers: No model. Can you post a picture of it? The thermal protector is inside the can light itself. Are you using the correct spot feathery type lamp surrounded by the fixture?
First of all, I'm guessing the wattage of the insubstantial 'bulbs' are too high for the installed element. As it gets hotter than required the nouns will break & reconnect when cooler making lights flicker. These units are installed beside this safety protection.
If you are discussion about an electrical box next to a handle, that is to say an electrical junction box.
