I have be doing maintenance/renovation for a property management company for 6years. i want to travel out on my own now. I do fine art, light plumbing close to replacing/repairing faucets, shutoff valves, toilets, shower controls (anything more resembling pipework or going into walls i do not do.) I do light electrical approaching replacing broken light switchs ,outlets , installing selection hood covers, light fixtures ,ceiling fan. I also do light drywall repair, holes from tenants/doors hose down damage, zilch that was ever bigger than 4ft x 4ft. Installing shower doors and fiberglass shower surrounds. towel bar and all kitchen and hip bath accesories of that nature. Bedroom sliding closet doors, square sliding screen doors. I dont want to save listing adjectives the little stuff i do so i hope thats enuff.

I do not do linoneum, carpet,or laminate floors. I pretty much gain the rental back up to standard for subsequent tenant. Anything major i call upon a specialty contractor.
Answers:    License requirements vary from state to state. As far as I know every state license plumbers and electricians. The rest depends where you live. Where I live near is no contractor licensing.
You should only need a broad contractors license. But first check with your city's L&I department.
