Does anyone know what type of consequences you could face if you don't use an insurance check to do repairs on your home? We have a very fruitless storm a few months ago and will be receiving $10,000 for repairs. What would come up if we didn't use that $ to repair the roof and siding and used it for repair inside the house that had nought to do with the storm. Is that considered insurance fraud even though nearby are indeed damages outside?
If New Orleans is any indication, next none.
Legally, the answer probably depends on where you live. I have a similar situation and asked them if I could do the work myself. They said sure. There was nil involving estimates. They just looked at it and made out the check.
But if you don't fix the roof, the inside of your home stands to attain damaged.
Answers: The money that they gave is up to you on how to spend it.
BUT if something else happen later on, you will probably hold problems making additional claims.
For example, they are not going to discharge claims on fixing a roof & siding that is already undermined.
AND they aren't going to pay for damages that go off because the siding and roof were not fixed properly. These other damages could be to interior property, but it also could be injury to a entity -- falling through the roof, being hit by siding blowing past its sell-by date the house, etc.
