i know from experience that it can cost more to fix a broken door than a broken windowpane, depending on the damage to the door.

Taking a stab surrounded by the dark here, that its an interior door.

1) Obtain a painter pry bar, or a WIDE bladed screwdriver, a sledge hammer and a putty knife or canceled credit card.

2) Using the pry railing (use hammer if needed), benignly pull the wood strip away from the door jamb, subsequent to the door handle. Pull it along the jamb above and below the door knob, because you want a opening of about a 1/2 inch, right contained by front of the door knob.

3) Look inside the gap and you should see the metal detain, that goes inside the door jamb.

4) Using the putty run through or credit card, push the catch away from the door jamb and into the door, towards the door knob.

5) Your door should be unlocked immediately. Using the hammer, thump the wood strip back into the door jamb.
