e.g. asbestos, lead pipe, water table, septic reservoir, blah blah blah. What do I need to know? For the record, I'm planning on tear out or at least trumping the oil heat system with a combo of solar paneling, wind and hydro turbine and geo-thermal system. But it will be my first home purchase
termites, structor, radon, water no test will be done on the house unless YOU discharge for a home inspection...then they will check everything inside and out

sounds similar to everyone is not answering your question if you're going to tear your home apart anyway and If you're really going to do adjectives this tearing apart, I would look for evidence of termites, because you want a good solid home, evidence of no river damage, because you want a home that has no drainage issues. If its on septic, you want to know how new/old it is and as far as asbestos and organize, that was years ago and you'll have to buy a behind the times, old house to get into that. I would shift and get a good home inspector and hold him do a complete and utter inspection of the premisis, have him check everything from top to bottom.. Belive me they do you should get almost a complete book of what they find wrong near the place! this you can use to get the place at a cheeper price or buy at face price but it is a accurate 400 bucks well worth it!!

What you will have to check varies seriously with location.
You're spending a lot of $. Don't skimp on a couple
of hundred that can stockpile your a$$.
As to the alternate power systems you plan, be aware
that they'll cost as much as the average house if
they're to be expected to work.
(The Geo-Thermal system will need a soil survey and test
holes to determine if it's practical.)
Hire a licensed reputable home inspector and negotiate a home warranty from the street trader. Hire a reputable home inspector. They do this stuff for a living and it should only cost $200-400. That's a small price to pay for a bit peace of mind.
Your best bey is to hire an independent building inspector, the will do a complete check of the home with a written report of adjectives the problems that require attention. You can write this in your purchasing offer. you get a lot of them, def opt to pay for a pest inspection and next have the seller compensate for any needed repair in the closing costs. this is a big one bc a lot of culture think it is unneccesary, and damage and treatment can be expensive.
