I have a 16 year dated Kenmore Washer/Dryer. The washer will not spin or drain properly but it does fill next to water. It make a "humming" noise resembling it is struggling to operate. My question is whether to try to repair it or is it time to procure another? Also - considering the age of the dryer - is it also "living on borrowed time."? Would I be better off contained by the long run to put money into repairs or just buy a strange set now? I do an average of 4 to 5 loads of laundry per week if that make any difference.
It doesn't have a belt. it sounds similar to the motor is locked up. At 16 yrs old, you would be better rotten buying new.

Sounds similar to your belt is gone. this is an easy fix for someone who know what they are doing. If the machine have worked for sometime, I'd get an estimate from a repairman beforehand I bought a new one.

Some time ago, I have to do work on my dryer and washer and found an 800 number for SEARS Repair Center. This was not the usual "schedule-and-wait' service, they put you within touch on the phone with a REAL repairman who would way of walking you through the testing, find the subdivision, get it to you and consequently RECONNECT with you to assist within getting the parts installed - all for a simple charge of $11.95. This amount is most likely larger, but I judge they are still doing this. Check your yellow page.
Answers:    Change it to the spin cycle and if makes like hum then
the motor is not starting. There are three possibilities. First
check or replace the motor capacitor. Many are found close to the motor and some may be unobserved behind the drum and some may even be masked in the headboard by the timer.
If that doesnt fix it, after either the motor is defective or the
nouns is locked up and holding the motor back from
working. Either passageway it is time to replace the unit
