I need the extra space between joices (23 inches apart) to hoist up the lawnmower, grill, etc during winter. How would I go roughly framing the joices? Are there more concern than freshly running a perpindicular board across the cuts to the other joices?

Answers:    If it is just a joist and not factor of an engineered truss, you will want to support both sides of it when you cut it out so your ceiling won't sag and despoil the drywall. Use hangers for the manager out boards and to support the joist and you should have no problems. Since it sounds approaching you are going to put some fairly calorific items up there, I would double up the team leader out boards for extra strength.
