I have a 10 seer unit. I find it thorny to believe that upgrading to a 14 seer unit can save you 25-45 percent past its sell-by date your monthly electric bill? The AC guy said his company quotes 25% but it can be as high as 45%
number 1 is correct, number 2 you get a big negative you will never rest your money on a 19 seer unit...for what you will pay for it, how i know, work at a hvac supply house... If your completion up upgrading,(I agree w/above statement)
Go for 19 seer or higher, for maximum savings.

Don't remember what the SEER rating be but in my old house, I switched from a regular outdoor A/C element to a heat pump and my electric bill was cut within 1/2.

Have a heat pump in this house and electric individual runs $70-$150. Thermostat stays around 79.
Answers:    A simple answer is, don't fix it until it's broken. You would never be able to work against the amount you would pay by just varying it for the purpose of saving a few bucks. In order to hold ultimate savings, you would involve to have matching evaporator, and furnace. When your equipment is worn out, upgrade at that time. Thanks.
