I've tried everything, cleaning-wise, there is unquestionably an odor coming from the toilet. Hubby says he think the wax ring was incorrectly placed when the bathroom be tiled (before our time) and is emit gases.
We are wondering a few things something like this repair that we plan to do ourselves....
First, is it necessary to remove the cistern when replacing the wax ring, or can we just elevate it and put the ring on?
Second, since it's not leaking hose, could we just trademark the toilet at the bottom with silicone and plug bad the gas leak ... or is that asking for more serious problems after that? The toilet was not hermetically sealed when it was replaced (the bathroom have a redo several years ago).
Third, is this gas escape dangerous?
Answers: As the others stated you can supply a wax ring or a double reinforced wax ring make sure you remove the outmoded one usualy a scrapper will work. and go ahead and trademark around toilet with a caulking.Thats the merely place you should get a oder from ,aside if theres a crack within the pipe, toilets have internal traps /curves ,inside to prevent gas from arising out your drains ,same principle as the S or P traps you have underneath all your sinks. As far as oders, sewer gas's contain methane gas ,hydrogen sulfide , a risk of an explosion menace or even fatal asphyxiation, so you defently dont want to be inhaling it.
wax rings don't final forever. They do need to be replaced after so oodles years. No, you do not need to clutch the tank stale, you need to unbolt the toilet from the floor and disconnect river lines. The wax ring could be leaking into the floor below the toilet, where on earth you can't see it. after the toilet is off the hole, verbs floor thoroughly, before putting hot ring in. Should be better instructions on vein or at library . Some books out there to for do-it-yourselfers that are amazingly helpfull as is the clerk at your local hardware stores.
