Theres a door frame surrounded by my house where on earth the wood is really starting to deteriorate (really old) and the door.... cant be re-attached because the wood is so old and it cant...
cant be re-attached because the wood is so old and it cant get hold of a hold. how can I fix that problem with out varying the frame? Its an old frame but the okay designed frame would most likely be expensive to fabricate.
Answers: Scarf a spanking new length of timber into the rebate where the hinge is, right to be heard 10 inches long, sand down and re-paint. With a little love it'll look as perfect as new and ending another age. message me if you would like more info.
Regards to Cynthia, I refer to the rebate contained by the door jamb, and filling the matured screw holes with filler will not give support to re-attach the door for any length of time. sounds a bit bodgy really...
Apparently it is your door jamb and not the door itself that is deteriorating so answer number one doesn't appear to apply as written. Instead, sand the bad areas of the jamb immensely well and use wood putty to pack all holes/cracks/ Let dry and sand smooth. When reinstalling hinge use longer screws such as 2-3 inches.
