I called Verizon for repair but I can't afford the minimum $180 to fix it.

Quite commonly, when the phone rings, I press the Talk button and the line only drops and I hear a dial tone. This also happens when the answering appliance (in the phone) answers. I disconnected my multiple handset phone and connected a corded phone and one and the same thing happen. Therefore it is not my phone. I have jiggle and removed the jack, etc. but it is still happening.

This is annoying as I am losing call. Again, it does not happen every time - - but normally enough to be a problem.

Does anyone know what the problem is? And how to fix it?

Answers:    This is a remarkably common problem next to land flash phones. The contacts are old and the handset co. won't admitted. They want to reverse the cost to u and that's in the order of it. They won't admit that. I don't want start a time of war or law suit but, if u want a answer to that min. charge is $180.50.
