Sump Pump Causing Headaches!!!? Just wanted to know if anyone have ever experienced a problem like...
Just wanted to know if anyone have ever experienced a problem like I am have with my sump pump. My sump pump is going rotten every 20-30 seconds and the mixing bowl fills up fast. The actual pump works and is pumping out the water, the problem is coming from underneath the pump...the pump inside the pit sits on concrete and in that seems to be two areas be water is coming up from the concrete as powerfully as coming out of the black pipe (connected to outside). Should there be hose coming up from the bottom of the pit/basin or should the only sea be coming from the one black pipe? The problem with the river coming up is that there is so much pressure, it moves the pump and the wet spits up and into the basement instead of one sucked up the tube and pushed out. If there is not suppose to be sea coming up, does anyone have any concept how that water is getting contained by? Any help next to this situation would be greatly appreciated :)
Answers: First, as other posters have said, gross sure your check valve is not broken. The check stopcock is a simple device to eliminate backflow of wet.
Second, you mention that water appears to be rising up from underneath the pump and that your area is experiencing a thaw out. The water rising up is potential due to the large amount of thaw ice within the ground beneath your house. As that ice thaw, the water wishes some place to go. It is not extraordinary for water to wick up into the subterranean vault or crawlspace. What is important is that the hose down has a place to shift, thus your sump pump. If the sump pump isn't able to feel the volume of water, you may want to consider upgrading to a stronger pump.
Also, if within is an ongoing problem of water coming up from the concrete beneath the pump, your house may be situated surrounded by such a way that groundwater intrinsically flows toward your foundation and under your house. In that covering, please make sure that you enjoy proper drainage around your foundation so that the water is intercepted and carried away from the house since it gets underneath and possibly damages your foundation / underground room.
YOUR CHECK VALVE IS SHOT!!! the valve is above the pump on the discharge rank.if the check valve is not closing after the water only pumped flows backwards to the sump.its a quick/cheap fix!!! you might have to do some PVC plumbing, but that's uncomplicated. have fun.
