I have be tasked with "hooking up" an outdoor spa.The instructions indicate that it can be "powered" by 240 or 120.What is the benefit of 240 over 120?
Answers:    Clifffie are you serious?? 25 years as an E/E?? The power factor is still equal at 120VAC or 240VAC. You need to brush up on your guess and Ohm's Law, and don't answer any more electrical questions until you do so!
In answer to the request for information, one is not any more beneficial than the other. Higher voltage, smaller amount current, smaller wire, Lower voltage, superior current, bigger wire. 240 volt will require two breaker spaces, 120 volt one space. Be discreet who you listen to in this forum.
Lower amperage use and longer enthusiasm for the pump and cheaper to operate. Make sure you follow the grounding regs as this is more important than using 240 or 120. Check beside your locals as to what they require
