We moved into our new home 2 years ago. The house be built in the 70's and the furnace is untested. Offhand I cannot remember the brand name, but it's supposedly one of the mature reliable brands of gas furnaces.
We've recently be having some problems next to the furnace kicking on (particularly the lower floor of our raised ranch) and a plumber said something nearly the switch not firing properly and to have someone replace it near more knowledge than he have of heating systems.
My interview is ... should we consider replacing the 40 year old gas furnace entirely, or should we a short time ago maintain for in a minute? I'm curious if the efficiency money would pay for the cost of the fresh furnace, and if so, for how long.
We have hot wet baseboard radiators, and the heat seem to work pretty well when it's kicking on properly. 2,800 sq ft house, New England nouns.

A 40 year matured furnace, and your starting to have problems? I don't believe your furnace owes you anything! With the advance in heat, you would pay for a hot top of the line furnace inwardly a couple of years, just within fuel savings.
If you get a quality heat contractor in, PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK THE WORD QUALITY, he would be capable of give you 99% acurate fuel nest egg etc.
I would call for 3 or 4 quotes, that much should be free, and later you will know the best route.
ps. I don;t know about your nouns but in some places if they touch one member of your heating system they by regulation must up grade or bring to code everything contained by the system. Ask for a final, 100% final quote.
Answers: You can replace it with a fresh unit and reclaim a lot of money. Also, since you live within New England, you can probably get a CHP component. These units can in actual fact produce electricity as well. For more info, check out the boilers page at my source.
