i doubt they make replacement gas tanks but it seem like a shame to have to shaving an otherwise good lawnmower because of a removable gas tank. can i procure replacement parts for a 5 year old lawnmower?
Find one at jacks small engines online, eBay is another place. Personally I just went to AutoZone or one of the other parts stores surrounded by town and asked for an epoxy putty for plastic gas tanks. They fixed me right up for under 10.00 and it be cracked in two diff places. Go to Sears with the model# and you can achieve a new gas tank. They do take home replacements. Probably much cheaper than a new mower. Good luck

There is a product called Seal All available within Ontario.
The package reads approaching a snake oil pitch, but it works.
I've sealed leaky steel vehicle tank, as well as cracked ski doo tanks.
For pin holes newly smear it on.it will stop the leak.
For cracks, empty the container first, so no gas is leaking.
Smear on a thin echelon, a half inch wider than the crack.
Then cover the crack with electricians video, over top of the seal all.
Then cover the cartridge with a couple more layers of sealer.
It's never inferior for me.
Good luck
Answers:    Replacement tanks are in actuality fairly easy to seize, even in sizes up to 6 gallons.

As to whether yours could be repaired, rather depends on of late where the leak is at. Are you sure it isnt where on earth the fuel line connects to the tank? If it is lately that connection, perhaps a simple tie clamp will take care of it. If it is the fuel file, then that too can be replaced with reduce.

Sears will of course, have replacement parts, you lately need to know your model number. Many of these parts can be found online too.

Here is an ebay search for 'craftsman mower gas tank', and it turned up several different models, both unsullied and old -
