We already have two layer and they will have to be removed. There may be wood twist but I won't know until the shingles come off. I am trial at this and I am trying to find out as much as I can. I found one contractor in CheckBook that looks perfect. What quality of tarmacadam paper or sheeting is dutiful? What is a ridge vent? What about an rime dam? Thank you for your aid.

Yes the two layers HAVE to come stale (weight issue). Damaged sheathing will have to be replaced, most roof sheathing made surrounded by the last 100 years are still around. I prefer 30# felt (tar paper)but my colleagues have been conversation about this untried product from GP, that's very pale and seems to be okay. Ice and hose shield should be installed on at least adjectives out edges (eves and rakes). This keeps snow that melt in the sun and re-freezes at darkness from seeping underneath the shingles and into the wood(and for the last time race drip edges goes resting on ice and water). Ridge vent is a system that allows air to move surrounded by and out of the attic, thus letting the bottom of the sheathing breath. You may or may not need ridge vent, check to make sure you own soffitt vents, but for, you don't need ridge vent, provided you hold gable vents (bottom of roof sheathing gotta breath). If not, you (or at lest should) enjoy a venting system installed why replacing the roof.
The best channel to tell if you own a god roofer is to see how he/she installs the felt: staples = desperate; bottle caps and nail = good.

tar/felt paper 15# is fine and osb 1/2 inch sheathing will also work unless your house is alot elder then to replace desperate wood it might be 3/4 inch planks ridge vent isnt as good as the regular box vent because ridge vent will blow off or river will blow in to it and contractors love ridge vent justbecause off the amount of money they will make the addition of to the overall price
