If my wiring is 25 years old do I entail to rewire or start giving it some thought .
if your wiring is this old afterwards you should have a periodic inspection and exam done by a qualified registered electrician.earth bonding from 25yrs ago is no longer acceptable and rcd protection of circuits is presently a must. No, the wiring should be fine.
If anything, check the connections at the circuit breakers, neutral and grounding buss, and devices.
if within the UK page 4 of the regs says "existing installation that have be installed to inacordance to earlier editions of the regulations may not comply next to this edition in every respect. This does not nessarily mean they are unsafe for continued use or require upgrading" even surrounded by the new regs you dont have to enjoy a rcd on every circute as its not primary protection its only additional protection, nearby are lots of ocassions where you dont need one or wouldnt want one. however for domestic use i would own one on most circutes. What i would do is find a sparky you know/trust and get him to test your house and speak about you what condition its in, if its ok fine if not he may know how to repair/replace the failing circute. and in the mean time retrieve up for the job as it will need doing sooner or later
ps if the wiring ok you can get a spanking new consumer unit fitted to give you rcd protection on rings, lights and shower beside out changing your wiring as can be sleeved to the bright colour codes I would get it checked out, get a qualified electrician to check things out and to grant you a quote for any work required. Get more than one quote and try to get recommendations from friends who own had work done. Would think electric wiring would be best checked after 15-20 years.
Answers: It's probably OK for another 15 years. (If it was done 'right' at the start and only competent work have been done). I've certainly see & tested wiring that old and it's be fine.
Trouble comes when any changes/additions that you want to make are required to be to the latest set of regulations, so the tiniest you would have to do is RCD every changed circuit, (probably change the consumer unit) which can head to nuisance trips at which point you will wish you have had the whole shebang rewired when you could...
On average a House should be rewired every 10 years for safekeeping reasons.. yes you ned to think in the order of it get a periodic inspection carried out by a qualified electrician
