Replacing a hip bath tub- DIY? Loaded grill!? We just purchased a home and want to replace one of the...
We just purchased a home and want to replace one of the bath tubs. It is rusty around the drain, chipped contained by a few places and just generally filthy. It's a plain bathtub and we were planning on going to Home Depot and purely buying a new, basic model tub. There is nought wrong with the tile around the tub (it actually looks new) and the plumbing works fine. My cross-examine is, can we do this on our own (we have little to no handyman skills!) or do we need to hire someone. Does Home Depot install them next to the purchase? How much does that cost? Or, is it cheaper to refinish the tub through a company like Rebath? Can you buy the inserts at Home Depot and do those yourself? I couldn't find them online. Thanks for any tips and info!
Replacing a bath tub is a highest renovation. A bathtub is installed befor the drywall stage of construction so in lay down to get it out you would have to slit walls apart. How would you get it thru the door? How would you get the tentative one in? This would be a job for a contractor but it will be expensive. I would suggest to jump with Re-Bath. They would install it for you with nearby factory trained installers it would be less of a headache for you. And with them installing it you would attain a life time warranty. I would not suggest reglazing becasue it will just chip and you will enjoy to do it all over again.
If you replace the tub the tile comes out too.
If the tub is a candidate for Rebath, find the cost and see if you can beat it next to Lowes.
Lowes will charge a batch of money install the tub. I was looking for sliding cup doors and they wanted $500 to install them. It will cost a group of $ to install a tub.
On the other hand, you can do this if you're tolerant enough. It might be a good project to strengthen your matrimonial or vice/versa/ good luck
Answers: I vote for the resurfacing also. We had it done in the region of ten years ago and it is still looking good. It is possible to do it yourself but I would recommend hiring a pro. They etch the surface then spray a exotic coating on it. You can't use it for several days (at least) afterwards but your walls and tile will still be intact.
If you don't want to spend a lot of money you can hold that tub resurfaced.
