Repairing BT Phone Wires?? My dog has chewed through the outside wires of the house which...
My dog has chewed through the outside wires of the house which i believe to be the internet lines because we be on a 8 meg and now on 2meg. The rope wasn't covered up and came up from the ground along the bricks and looks close to it goes through the wall to the BT principal phone socket. The colours of the wires which are now apparent are 4 white wires, 1 yellow, 1 blue, 1 green, 1 brown and 1 Grey. I phoned up BT and they said that it be going to cost over 100 pounds but couldn't confirm that it was the phone wires (as they aren't trained within that area :s) I be hoping that someone could tell me what i could do minus paying the lb100+ as i thougt it was a bit steep.
Thanks: :D
Answers: US electrical system differs a little but this may oblige you. Carefully trim the wiring cover put a bet on a few inches on each side of the chewed spot.
Carefully look at the wires because the colors are outstandingly important. You can as a rule splice same Color to same color without problems, YOU mentioned you have 4 white wires, I bet if you look close you will find that the white wires have colored stripes on them. If they do next splice the say white next to red stripe to the white with red stripe and so on.
If the white wires do NOT own any colored stripes or spots on them then I would foot the money and have BT fix them because they would enjoy to warranty the repair.
