From a reliability standpoint, stay away from the sliding doors, Swinging doors hold up to moderate/heavy use and are easier to maintain and safe and sound.

3-point locks are good collateral wise but can't stand up to constant use and eventually break.

Answers:    I similar to sliding doors better, but its really your choice. For a sliding door, you will want double paned, insulated doors, but any decent door will come close to that. Whats nice about sliding doors is that surrounded by the nice weather, you can slide the door open and maintain the screen door closed to capture some fresh air, minus having to widen a regular type door and having it go and get in the mode.
