Question in connection with heat a house? My roommates wont put the heat on until its really cold... I...

My roommates wont put the heat on until its really cold... I said its supposed to snow tomorrow they said "when we see snow it'll dance on" so my response was "it take more energy and the furnace works harder if you dont own the heat on already... more heartiness and the harder the furnace works, the more money we pay"... is this true? any links to prove them wrong would be awesome! thanks
Answers:    That bit in the region of the furnace is an old wives fairy-tale.
Time to 'spread it on the roses' already.
Yes it takes more sparkle to bring the heat up
from a low heat, but the house has a constant
fry loss, and feeding that would own used far
more energy over the time spent when the grill was past its sell-by date.
As to 'working harder` most furnaces are on or off,
nil in between, and the time the furnace is on
determines how much force it uses.
(Same applies to A.C. BTW.)

The only absolution for that 'leave the steam,
(or A.C.), on low when you're gone' B.S. is that
you don't have to suffer through the fill time for
the system to get your place wager on to the set
temperature, and hold no doubt that you pay cheque
for the luxury.
I'm sorry to say but thats not true my dad works for MEA here surrounded by Alaska and he says you won't be paying more.
