Ran into a situation where I involve to jack up an old roofed porch that has 4 X 6 posts for the 6 fundamental supports across the back. 3 of the middle posts are rotting pretty severely and the middle of the porch have sagged something like 8 or 9 inches. The porch only extends around 6 feet from the building so 8 or 9 inches is deeply for such a narrow nouns. It is also a 3 story porch with a roof so within is a lot of consignment to consider.
I`m pretty confident about mortal able to jack up the structure. My best guess is partly an inch or so at a time over a 3 or 4 week period.
What is the proper method to splice the posts? I have thinking... But what is the right way to do it?
Also any proposal on a foundation of some sort so this won`t settle again. Would 42" deep 8" round pad like you`d find on a deck be adequate?
Answers: If there is framing above it close to you mentioned then you should not be handling this yourself. moving it 9 inches wager on up could put a tremendous strain on the building since it has already be strained the opposite bearing by sagging 9 inches.
