I have a propane furnace within a double wide mobile home, I removed the round inspection plate to verbs out for winter and on the left side wall it looks similar to there is a roast shield or ? and it has a split within it, kinda like its ripped alittle, is that basically a heat shield or should i be concerned? Other sagacious the pilot works fine and unit looks okay, in recent times dont want to turn on burner till I did some checking. Any help or suggestion would be great, I'm not a heater guy. Thanks
Answers:    Intertherm furnaces in the region of 10 years old enjoy a major flaw and what you of late described tells me you own one of these units. Ussually starts beside discolored circle on left side of steam exchanger, with several colors of the rainbow. In time they crack, it is a problem with the burner concentrating the flame on one spot of the bake exchanger. Get it checked immidiately, this will allow carbon monoxide to enter the air stream and can snuff out in a thing of hours. It's worth the one hour service fee to find out if nearby is any real concern.
As next to any furnace, it should be checked by a professional yearly. Heat exchangers do crack and ooze carbon monoxide over time. Get a carbon monoxide detector. As with propane, the reservoir is usually stored outside. Propane is heavy so if at hand is a leak it will stay on the ground. Take care with any gas.
