Pretty sure I overfilled the grease on my mower. Smoked at first, immediately won't start at adjectives. Any thinking?

Answers:    You most likely hold oil within the airfilter. The crankcase vent goes to the airbox on most mowers. Excess grease would have come through the vent hose into the airfilter. So, filch the airfilter off and if it have oil contained by it, replace it. You probably don't have to replace the spark plug, merely clean it. I also wouldn't tip the mower to drain the grease, I would remove the drain plug from the bottom of the engine and drain some out. It should never be above the full mark on the dipstick. Remove the spark plug cable before reaching below the mower.
Remove the excess oil by tipping the mower on its side near oil plug and out. Catch the excess grease in a cup or container. Oil should only come up to the tremendously bottom thread on oil riddle hole. Remove the spark plug take it near you to an auto parts dealer or small engine shop and buy two of like type plugs. Install new plug and start your engine it might pilfer a while since you have grease in your cylinder. More than feasible you will foul that plug out also, that's why you bought the extra plug.
Cleaning a spark plug can be done but when trouble shooting a problem it's best to have a bright one. Old plug could still be fouled even though it looks clean.
