Potential Broken Wall Stud? I currently live in a house with a friend of mine that...
I currently live in a house with a friend of mine that I have known since middle school. About a week ago, he accidentally unstop fired in the house. The bullet went through 3 walls, bounced past its sell-by date the ceiling, and went into a 4th wall. The 4th wall is the outer most wall of the house. We went outside the house to see if the bullet go out of house. There were no holes, so we assume that the bullet is stuck somewhere between the 4th wall.
My roommate felt awfully guilty around it, and he says he will take full responsibility and pay envelope for the dry wall repair.
I know the dry wall can be fixed easily, especially the bullet was small. What I am worried in the order of is what exactly did that bullet hit while it was inside the 4th wall. Could it had go through one stud? Or even two? Everything may be fine now, but in 10 years, the studs may finally collapse and the house will stir to ruins.
Am I thinking too much? Or is this possible.?
Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Answers: You are thinking too much. Think of all the nails used to hold the house together and adjectives the holes drilled in the studs and joists for pipes and wires. And even so your house is still standing.
If anything, go out and buy your friend a trigger lock.
You're thinking too much. Even if the bullet is lodged in a stud, it will do little mischief. And even if it did, the failure of one stud in a wall will not bring the place down. i would shift with thinking too much(or not enough). there are at lowest possible 4 nails in every stud, adjectives the drywall nails, a 1" hole for wire and\or pipe. you are fine, relax... fix the drywall, and win on with your life.
