Put the lid stern on the filter tank and secure the lid. Make sure the roomy O-ring is in place and is in apt working shape. About once per month, or whenever needed, put an O-ring lubricant on the O-ring. This will create a tight seal, eliminating any nouns from entering the filter. This will also extend the life of your O-ring. If the O-ring is torn or frayed, or in any road unusable, then purchase a new O-ring from your local pool professionals. If it's a Hayward, and have a big black clamp around it, do these few steps.

1 Remove the nut and compression spring.
2 Carefully seperate the top again.
3 Wipe down both surfaces, and the gasket.
4 Re-grease the rubber gasket with the proper clear lube or
Vaseline.
5 Also put a thick division of grease on the base and lid/
6 Put together making sure the gasket stays in place.
7 Put on the ring, squeeze the widen end, put the spring and
nut back on and fully tighten.
Answers:    Try and get new o-ring gasket. If not verbs gasket from lid, clean gasket apply Vaseline to o-ring and reapply if still leaks achieve some Teflon tape and remove lid leave gasket on lid run Teflon tape and apply over o-ring and reinstall. If you have two o-rings install both of them. Worst bag purchase new o-ring gasket. Good Luck. Big Dogg is on the money also check lid for damage.
