I had a hip bath last dark and in the morning when i looked contained by the garden the drain had overflowed and sewage be everywhere - not nice. I assume the drains are blocked, does anyone have any suggestions of how i can fix this? also could it be someone else's drains or is it potential to be my own?
I'd rather fix it myself than compensate to get someone out so i'm grateful for any guidance.
Thanks!
Answers: To fix it yourself, you need to buy drain rods (DIY stores flog them - they are rods that you screw together to make a really long flexible rod) and poke around to see if there's a blockage. Sorry, it is really gross, but if there's a blockage, afterwards your first step is to try and poke it through, as it could well simply be a build-up of paper.
If the drain is one that services other houses besides yours, consequently your water company is probably responsible for servicing the drains, so if that's the casing, you would then be capable of call them out for free.
If neither of these solutions work, next you would have to give the name someone out. A big drains company in the UK is Dyno-Rod, so they could be worth trying. Make sure they quote up to that time carrying out any work, because there own been cases of companies motto that the problem is bigger than it is and overcharging for services like pumping out drains. If the quote is over lb200, obtain 2-3 competitive quotes before agreeing to the work.
You could try and clean out it yourself with a set of drain rods you can buy from somewhere close to B&Q (lb10-lb20)- they are also handy for chimney sweeping. Is your soak away drain filled near leaves? - this sometimes happens to me.
If the above fail call dyno rod out lblb!! but they will acquire rid of it. You dont say if you live contained by house/flat so dont know if it your drains or someone elses ? - Hope this helps virtuous luck.
