We have a pellet stove and that damn item doesn't get the house melt. It just take the chill off. So we are thinking of replacing it next to a wood stove. Is there any piece we should know before doing it? Someone said something in the region of a fire wall?
Answers: there are in no doubt clearances from back and sides of wood stoves. when i installed ours, i used brick, made a fireside for it to sit on and layed brick up the wall behind it, i have never layed brick before but it wasn't rock-hard, it still standing after 6 years so guess i did O.K.. if you don't want to do brick, i also put one in a mobile home once, made a frame of 2x4 on circumference with 2x2 inside the frame, produce sure you have 2x2 where on earth the legs of stove will sit, next i put 1/2" plywood over 2x2 and complete the remainder with quick-create. for the wall i run 1x2 furring strips, vertical, one on each side & one surrounded by the center of a sheet of 5/8 sheetrock, leave 2" nouns gap at bottom & 2" nouns gap at top. it passed insurance company inspection.
if you can cut your own wood you can and will stockpile money, it is a lot harder than merely going to the store to buy bags of pellet, but we feel it is worth the expence of chainsaw maint. gas, grease, etc.. then you enjoy to split it, either by paw with block & sledge, or buy a hyd. splitter, around $1,200 for a good one, but next to proper care it should finishing a life time. nearby are many dignified effience stoves, just be sure to procure one large plenty to meet your requests. i hope i have be of some help. upright luck and best wishes.
