Answers:    when it started making the loud roar you should have shut it down. sounds to me the condenser fan go out or locked up. your air conditioner then be not able to get rid of the herald and the compresser then quite if its an elder unit or a cheap unit you may hold took out the compresser. you could try to replace the fan motor first and see if the unit comes on. I would recomend calling a tech. they would be capable of tell if the compresser is now unpromising due to over heating or if there is a safty specifically open like a illustrious pressure switch or an internal overload on the compresser. Sounds like your fan have quit or your compressor has died,either instrument call an ac tech out to look at it.It may also be that you have a coolant seepage,either way phone up someone out to look at it.
