Oil versus organic gas boiler, which to choose? We're looking to replace our old boiler (we hold hot water/radiator heat)...
We're looking to replace our old boiler (we hold hot water/radiator heat) and are looking at either staying near the fuel oil we hold now or moving to gas. Our grease tank is underground, underneath out patio to be exact, and to be precise one concern, as we have be told that if we take it out of service, we own to remove it (I also read it can be filled near an inert substance, but don't know what that means).
We already enjoy a gas line to the house. Our heat oil cost $2.80 per gallon second time we bought. Not sure what it is now. Generally we come across to spend about $2400 per year on grease, heating an ripened 2800 sq foot home. Our current boiler is about 20 years antediluvian.
What are the advantages of changing to gas versus staying next to oil? What are the disadvantages?

You may want to think give or take a few using a combi boiler to replace your water stove at the same time and let go a lot of money. You may be capable of buy a chp system and that would save you even more.
powerfully, oil doesn't explode if it leak. and dealing with the feeble tank won't be cheap, even more expensive if it leak. and you can shop around for the best price on oil, can't do that next to gas. a newer boiler would be a bit more efficient, but not drastically better. do you own a cleaning and tune up done every year before the heat season, you will get better use if you do. i'd start by adding insulation up surrounded by the attic. consider replacement doors and windows, or at most minuscule new storm doors and storm window if they are old and not fitting powerfully. that would probably cost about like as converting to gas, but would give you funds for as long as you live there. check to see if your grease company does energy audits and catch one. if they don't, or you buy from the cheapest source and don't have a regular grease contract, check with your town building inspector as to where on earth you can go to attain one. good luck.
