Oil Furnance High Voltage Transformer have small amount of asphalt similar to substance leak out of it? Why? Does that mean nearby is something wrong with the lofty voltage...
Does that mean nearby is something wrong with the lofty voltage transformer (have to hit the reset button sometimes to make the furnace work, but it start then). Or have something else caused the large voltage transformer to leak out this stuff. Transformer is mounted on top near hinge to swing out to back to access points/nozzle etc.
Answers: The things leaking is the insulating dielectric. Depending on how elderly the unit is, it may or may not contain PCB's. It should be imperfect on the label plate if it does not contain PCB. No situation what, the insulation is going and the transformer is failing. Replace it and dispose of the old one properly. Put it surrounded by a plastic bag, newly to prevent a mess.
it is probably wound with a fiberglass cartridge,that has a resin on it the resin is getting hot and leak out,but i can't tell you if it's majority or not,if you have to hang on to resetting,it may be going bad,you can probably replace it yourself if critical,..tom
