New dimmer switch - packed up? I fitted a single dimmer switch to a ceiling light beside fan...

I fitted a single dimmer switch to a ceiling light beside fan attached. Connected the 2 red wires into Common & L1. Not working at adjectives. Should I swap the wires around? Is it because of the fan?
Answers:    It will be because of the devotee. Dimmer switches are rated for the wattage of appliance attached to them. The adherent will be of considerably higher wattage than a frothy bulb and will therefore not work. What you are surrounded by effect doing is using the dimmer switch as a speed control for the fan motor, which is not what it is designed for.

If you tried matching switch on a standard light (without a fan) fitting, it would work.

:o)
Yup. The component itself must be able to enjoy a dimmer(differently wired) otherwize you will burn the fan motor out.
