Ok so I just moved into an apartment that have all crank window. You cant put an AC in those so they hold the sleeves in 3 of the rooms for the AC's. Well I hold been inquiring for a "through the wall" AC but EVERY single one I have found wants a bigger appliance plug (220v maybe?) All the sleeves own a single plug outlet right next to them but they are run of the mill plug shape. Is there anyway to convert one to be capable of work with one of these AC's? How much would it cost to do this?
If you live within an area where on earth the electrical code requires steel conduit you may be in luck. Ask the innkeeper if you can hire an electrician to change the outlet to 220v. This can be done by calculation another wire from the electrical panel to the outlet and making the proper connections. I would guess you will hold to pay, at the most, a days wages for an electrician surrounded by your area. plus the cost of a breaker, chain, and new outlet. If you are surrounded by an area beside bx, romex, etc. Not sure what labor would be involved, as walls may have to be open up, then repaired.
Cost? Based upon first scenario, not more than $500 sour the top of my head.. I don`t know less. A accurate handy man may charge $200.
The smaller BTU thru the wall unit are 115v.. That is likely what you inevitability. The larger ones are 220v..
One problem is that you cannot assume that it would just slide surrounded by to the existing sleeve in the wall. Normally the sleeve wants to be changed. I think with the sole purpose the exact brand and model that was here would fit exactly.
I would start by talking to the neighbors or the manager/owner or keep people plausible knows what you necessitate. It is also a permanent installation contained by a apartment so it really needs to be handle with the manager's assistance. Likely easier too.

Answers: The solely way to do specifically to determine whether the AC unit you want to buy have a 3 prong or 4 prong cord. If it's 3, it does not use a neutral, and you may know how to do so with the wires you enjoy. Next you need to determine the amperage draw for the tentative AC. You will also need to know what size telecommunication you have surrounded by the box. If the draw of the AC is 15 amps or less, you can use any 14 or 12 gauge chain. One or the other will be in in attendance. If it's over 15 amps, you will need 12 determine wire. You will have need of a new outlet to contest the plug on the AC and a 2 pole breaker. Connect the white to one brass terminal, the black to the other, and the green to ground. You may want to color the white with a black signpost to indicate that it is a conductor.
Inside the panel, you will need to integer out which set of wires comes from the AC. Be sure you have the right one to avoid disrupt to other equipment. Disconnect the white from the neutral buss inn, and remove the breaker that the black wire is connected to. Locate 2 close spaces and install the 2 pole breaker. Connect one wire to respectively terminal, turn the breaker on, and check operation.
If any of this makes you even a bit uncomfortable, phone an electrician. A mistake could be hazardous. Hope this helps.
