I don't hear the timer running after the agitate(wash) cycle stops. It is a Whirlpool Design 2000, top-loading model.
It is the timer switch


I agree it sounds like the lid switch. Here's a site to help you troubleshoot the problem and will get rid of you parts if you need them:

Answers:    when it stops see if you can advance the timer by hand and take it to work if that works you need a timer,also if you have different cycles see if it works within another mode one you don't usually use,finally it could be a safety switch,the one that detects the door is open,use a pencil or stick and see if you can click that switch by paw and it starts.tom
