I'm not sure exactly how to go roughly fixing this problem. I know to shut the power off to the kitchen and adjectives but after that, I'm lost. The sink is also backing up since crap have been going down in that for a week and not getting chopped up. I turned the dishwasher on which flushed most of the food back up into the sink but it still of late hums. What to do now? Don't really own money for a new one or a plumber.
I AGREE WITH:

You have something jammed contained by the grinder part of the disposal.
First, if you can, stick your fingers into the disposal and see if you can grain anything metallic or glass jammed surrounded by it.
If you take a sturdy dowel and put it within as far as you can and then smack the ending of it forcing the grinder in a counter clockwise direction you may know how to unjam it.

With 3 kids, this has happen WAY too often!
something is caught surrounded by the blades. Look in the drawers in close proximity the disposal for a shiny wrench that looks like a languorous letter S.
It will hold six sided ends on it and that is a disposakl wrench.
It fits contained by the center of the disposal on the bottom under the sink.
U stick it within till it slips in, consequently grab it and endow with it a pull to see if u can trademark it break loose or turn a little. If that works u may enjoy dislodged it and then remove the wrench and try it again near the switch,
If that doesn't work then find yourself a short stick and put it surrounded by the disposal and see if you can give it a tug to break it loose. Then hold it out and try the switch again.
If it stops humming altogether then u popped the circuit breaker and explicitly a little button found on the bottom of the disposal that you enjoy to push to reset.

Sometimes it a short time ago gets jammed. brand sure it is off and stick your paw down into it and try to turn the metals things down there. Or whip a broom handle and put it down within at an angle and try to get it to move to the right.
