My refrigerator isn't working... can I fix it or do I want to name someone? Or maybe I just necessitate a new one. Last week it stopped...

Or maybe I just necessitate a new one. Last week it stopped making ice so I thoughty the rime maker was the problem. Then I notice that the milk and beer was warmer next it should be, and a smell inside like meat that was going doomed to failure. Then I felt of the food in the freezer and it be soft unstead of hard (frozen). Does anyone know whats wrong with it or if I can fix it? Thanks!
The only article you can do yourself would be to pull it away from the wall. Unplug it. Theres a cardboard panel on the bottom in put money on. Take off the cardboard and clean out adjectives the coils iunderneath the fridge. Plug it back in and see if it works. If it doesn't you stipulation a new fridge or a repaiman. The new fridge would be cheaper within the long run. It will operate on less eletricity and save you some $. First- check things close to the plug. Make sure it's plugged in. If it is, plug something else in that receptacle -like a storm lantern, and see if that works. If not, you may have blown a fuse or circuit breaker.
If the receptacle IS working then refer to Tim's answer, above.
As Thor mentioned, pull it away from the wall and take the bottom panel rotten. Clean any dust and dirt from the coils. Compressed air would be helpful along near a vacuum.

While you have it out, plug it in and see the fan. It is a blade type fan and when you plug it contained by, it should come on. If it doesn't that is your problem. A temp fix is take a small room aficionado and place it at the bottom of the refrigerator and you will probably get some cooling out of it. That will get you by until you bring back a repairman out there
It's possible the thermostat. Some are easily got at to replace but others are a b(a)(a)(a)(a)(a)(a) to acquire at. When you open the freezer door can you hear the fan running.
You could enjoy a freon leak or a bad motor. IF it a drastically old refrigerator Get a knew one. If it is rather new I would call a repairman next weigh the costs of repair against replacement. Check the thermostat setting, then the plug to see if the fuse has blown, and if adjectives OK call in a service man as something desires replacing and it is not a diy job. How old is the fridge?
I just had a friend let somebody know me the same thing 2 days ago in the region of his.Try this before you call within a repair man they always make it nouns worse then it is so you will have to spend more next you should. pull it out from the wall and Turn your unit around.
Get down on your knees beside a flashlight and look under to see if your coil is full of dirt and if the fan is running.A dirty coil will restrict the heavens flow and make your compressor over heat cause the compressor to cut out on high head pressure. When that happen you no longer have cold air coming surrounded by to the unit.So no matter how strong your ice maker works it won,t kind ice or keep things cold.If this is the problem simply get a small wire brush and brush sour all the dirt on the coil. Then if you have a shop vac remove the dirt you simply scraped off so it does not collect back on the coil again. You could even after put the hose on the part of the shop vac that blows instead of sucks and blow air Thur the coil to blow out what you might of missed.Plug it surrounded by and give it an hour to see if it worked. If this does not work then you hold a bad compressor or a bad starter relay and you will enjoy to call in an A/C tech. hope this help

Answers:    Get an estimate. Sears surrounded by the past would credit you for some of the estimate charge back if you bought the replacement from them. In times past it was all of it, but immediately I think half.

At eight years it is worth fixing unless it is a fairly simple and inexpensive one, even then probably less than the replacement and that is to say an added hassle.

Basically, not being too old, unless it is the compressor (unlikely) later it is worth fixing.

You didn't tell us much. Model, type? (i.e. top freezer?).

Are the fans running? Is anything running? Is it making a buzz and a click? We requirement to know a bunch more if you have somebody handy that wants to try to fix it.

i.e. If it is trying to run that tell me the thermostat is okay.

GE has a little obsession of losing the defrost heaters since the more efficient glass heaters enjoy a shorter lifespan.

I would guess, although you didn't say, the back wall is covered within ice and that is your cooling problem. That is most adjectives.

Or all refrigerators have gone to an electronic start relay explicitly more exact (again for energy efficiency) and those devices attached to compressor fail. Replacement plus labor for that portion could be over $200. That failure usually results in audible range the buzz and click.

If it is all frosted up, you could empty and defrost it for a afternoon and then it will work for a week or two until it is plugged up again and that gives you time to take home a decision or wait for your service send for.

Good Luck.
