My maytag side by side frige 2004 runs constantly then overheats the compresser and the overload relay works and keep the compresser fom firing back up. I can hear it trying to start but it won't, if I unplug it and consent to the overload cool down and reset, it will fire back up and run continusly until it get to hot and trips the relay again. At first I thought it was the overload relay and capacitor so I replaced them and it run constantly till the compressor got to hot and tripped the relay again. when it runs it get ice cold and I tested the compressor for ground and have infinity and had
resistance.Could it be the thermostat or the defrost timer, I did not check those all the same I just thought it be the compressor overload and capacitor. I'm an Idiot, any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank You
Answers: It is a unsound thermostat. An open thermostat default to a high pro, so it does not shut off. If it be a bad compressor, or low contained by freon, it would not "get rime cold". If it is low on freon, the low pressure switch would not let it start up.
The defrost timer any runs normally (cycles on and rotten cold) or is in defrost mode (heater elements turn on to temporarily boil the freezer in establish to remove frost). Anyway, It is not the defrost timer if it "gets icy cold".
Unplug your Refrigerator remove the thermostat and purloin it to your local parts store. Hopefully it is cold outside where you live, if so you may put your food surrounded by a cooler outside your door until you replace the thermostat which you will find is an easy charge. Have fun with the project.
Sounds close to it could possibly be a faulty thermostat.
