Most of the metal stoppers are metal and unscrew, yours may be corroded. Try plunging next to the stopper in the up position.

there are oodles different types of "tub pop ups". sometimes they get stuck due to spike holding it which may be why you are not draining well.

depending on your type, it MAY unscrew, or "MAY" freshly pull straight up.

if you hold a mechanism <trip lever> mounted on the side, you may own to dis-assemble that part first. < i doubt it but...>

Answers:    Use a pair of pliers and beside it in the down or closed postition turn the knob on top next to the pliers counter clockwise this should unscrew the knob.
