During the wash cycle (after it fills) it starts agitating, but somewhere down the flash it starts to make this horrible grinding/humming nouns and while that is taking place, the agitator slows way down and the picnic basket begins to spin slowly. Once that episode is over it drains, and fill for the rinse cycle. When the rinse cycle agitation begins the entire contrivance jerks really unyielding then it kick into agitation, and starts the whole grinding/humming/vibrating episode adjectives over again.

It's about 2 years out-of-date, any ideas why?

I enjoy a Kenmore wash piece of equipment...
