I turned off the thermostat and the switches within on the furnace for about 10 minutes and later it ran fine for roughly it hour and started doing it again turning on then turning stale

Answers:    In some furnaces there are heat sensors and air flow sensors and if one of those isnt working correctly the furnace shuts past its sell-by date because it would overheat. You probably need to procure the unit serviced so adjectives of the relays and sensors have be checked . You may also need to check that the flue isnt blocked by a bird nest or anything.

When's the closing time you replaced the filters? Could be a unpromising thermostat also - pick up a cheap one at the hardware store, hook it up and see what happens. If it still shuts itself sour, call a repairman.
